In July we read Funny in Farsi by Dumas. It is a collection of stories by Firoozeh Dumas about growing up as an Iranian in the United States.
Her stories are very well written and funny. The story about her father on the game show Bowling For Dollars had me laughing and cringing, all at the same time, and her story about having to answer to Frizzy Dumbass in the doctor’s office made me feel much better about the times my name has been slaughtered.
My only complaint is that the stories are not in any order. They do not necessarily build upon each other. In one story she was eight. In the next chapter she would be married.
We enjoyed this book!
